Project type: Whole house transformation
Completion date: 2021

Mid-Century Modern residence in Stevenson is expanded with a second story.

scope of work completed

1955 mid-century modern stone rancher in Baltimore’s Stevenson neighborhood, believed to be a Gordon Sugar custom home. This primary residence was expanded with a cantilevered second story. A gorgeous rancher on a large level lot was an ideal site for enhancement. The Butler stone foundation of the home was complimented with boral and cumaru wood siding. New black frame windows added contemporary style. Placement of the windows was carefully considered in context with the existing landscaping. Polished concrete floors were poured over newly installed radiant heating. An interior staircase with steel and glass railings was added. New white oak floors received a dark stain. Bathrooms and the kitchen were completely rebuilt in a muted palette. All new electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems were installed. The result is a refreshed home ready for its next 60+ years. This renovation project was done by guerilla construction in cooperation with Joel Plitt, architect.
